Terms and Conditions

  1. Entry into the Informed Competition is deemed to be acceptance of the terms and conditions as provided in this document. 
  2. The Rule of Law Education Centre may vary these Terms and Conditions from time to time at its sole discretion.
  3. Eligibility to enter the Informed Competition is subject to the terms and conditions as stated in this document under the Entry Requirements section.  
  4.  The Rule of Law Education Centre does not accept responsibility for any loss, damages, or injury incurred as a consequence of entering Informed Competition or in connection with taking up the Prizes.
  5. Once prizes have left the prize supplier’s premises, no responsibility is taken for prizes damaged, delayed, or lost in transit.
  6. Except for any liability that cannot be excluded by law, the Rule of Law Education Centre (including its officers, employees, and agents) excludes all liability (including negligence), for any personal or permanent injury or loss of life; or any loss or damage (including loss of opportunity); whether direct, indirect, special or consequential, arising in any way out of the promotion.
  7. The Rule of Law Education Centre is seeking insights into how young Australians understand systems of governance and law and their civic rights and responsibilities. By entering the Informed Competition, entrants consent to their submissions being used for potential research, submissions or other publications made by the Rule of Law Education Centre, including the anonymous reproduction of parts or the whole of their submissions. 
  8. Entrants, their parents or carers, teachers, or other representatives who prefer not to have an entry included in the Rule of Law Education Centre’s research, submissions or other publications can choose to opt out at any time by emailing their request to education@ruleoflaw.org.au. They do not need to provide a reason and choosing not to have their work anonymously reproduced for the use of the Rule of Law Education Centre will not affect an entrant’s chances of winning the competition. 
  9. By entering this competition, entrants agree that they may be contacted by Rule of Law Education Centre staff for interviews. Participating in any interview is entirely voluntary. 
  10. Entrants consent to their first name, year group, and school being used on the Rule of Law Education Centre’s online and social media platforms (Instagram, Facebook, TikTok and LinkedIn) publicly should they win the competition. 
  11. The Rule of Law Education Centre may use all entries submitted to the Informed competition in part or in full for promotional, marketing, research and publicity purposes related to the competition on the Rule of Law Education Centre’s online and social media platforms.  
  12. By entering this competition, entrants acknowledge that personal information provided in connection with this competition may  be used by the Rule of Law Education Centre in accordance with the Rule of Law Education Centre’s Privacy Policy.
  13. By entering this competition, the entrant provides The Rule of Law Education Centre a licence to reproduce, publish, and communicate the whole or part of their entry for the purpose of administration, promotion, and research related to the Informed Competition.
  14. The entry portal for the Informed Competition is powered by Jotform. By entering the Informed Competition, entrants acknowledge that the information provided as part of the competition entry is subject to the Jotform Privacy Policy and will be provided by Jotform to the Rule of Law Education Centre for the purpose of administering the competition.

Entry Requirements

  1. Entrants must be undertaking Secondary education in Australia in years 7-10 at the time of submitting their entry. 
  2. Entries can be made individually or as a group. 
  3. Only one submission per individual or group can be made per competition period. 
  4. Any entries received outside of the competition period will be invalid. 
  5. Entries should be original work created by the student(s) submitting that entry, regardless of the submission type chosen.
  6. Student name and identifying details must not appear anywhere on the submission as they will be judged anonymously to determine a winning entry. 
  7. The competition period will be stated on the competition website under the section heading Key Dates and will be updated at the start of each new school year as determined by the dates published by the NSW Department of Education. The Rule of Law Education Centre reserves the right to make alterations to competition dates without notice. 
  8. All entries must be made via the online entry form at https://form.jotform.com/243227877005862 
  9. Entrants must provide all details required on the form in order to enter, including (but not limited to) name, year level, school, teacher/ guardian (in the case of home schooling or distance education) contact details. By providing this information, entrants agree to be contacted by the Rule of Law Education Centre and agree for their teacher to be contacted by the Rule of Law Education Centre. 
  10. Entrants must upload their original work in their chosen format to the entry form as per the instructions given. Types of files accepted to this portal are listed on the teacher information and student information pages of the competition website. 
  11. All entries must be the original independent creation of the entrant and must not infringe any third-party rights. Entries must not have been published previously and/or have been used to win prizes in any other competitions.
  12. Incomprehensible and incomplete entries will be deemed invalid. No responsibility is accepted for late, lost, delayed, or misdirected entries.
  13. Plagiarised entries will be disqualified from the competition.

Certificates, Judging and Prizes

  1. All entrants will receive a participation certificate after their entry has been received. 
  2. All entries will be judged using the criteria found on the Criteria page of the competition website by Rule of Law Education Centre staff and any invited guest judges that the Centre may invite to participate. 
  3. The Rule of Law Education Centre reserves the right to not award a prize if the entries are not considered to meet the criteria through the judging process. 
  4. The Rule of Law Education Centre reserves the right to alter the criteria after the completion of one competition and before the start of a subsequent competition period. 
  5. One prize will be awarded to one entry deemed to be the overall best entry received in a competition period. More information on the prize can be found on the Prize page of the competition website. Prizes will be as described and are not transferable. 
  6. Prizewinning entries will be contacted via the teacher/guardian of the student(s) of the winning entry up to two days prior to the announcement of the winner. 
  7. The Rule of Law Education Centre’s decisions are final and there will be no further correspondence with students or their representatives about the results of the Informed Competition.
